7. Cookies

A cookie is a file containing an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. We use two types of cookies on our website: “session cookies” and “persistent cookies.” Session cookies are temporary cookies that remain on your device until you leave the website. A persistent cookie remains on your device until you manually delete it (how long the cookie remains will depend on the duration or “lifetime” of the specific cookie and your browser settings). Cookies do not typically contain any information that personally identifies a user. However, personal information that we store about you may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from cookies.

A. How Cookies Are Used

We use cookies for the following purposes:

      • Authentication – we use cookies to identify you when you visit our website and as you navigate our website.
      • Status – we use cookies to help us to determine if you are logged into our website.
      • Personalization – we use cookies to store information about your preferences and to personalize the website or our services for you.
      • Security – we use cookies as an element of the security measures used to protect user accounts, including preventing fraudulent use of login credentials, and to protect our website and services generally.
      • Advertising – we use cookies to help us to display advertisements that will be relevant to you.
      • Analysis – we use cookies to help us to analyze the use and performance of our website and services.

B. Cookies Used By Our Service Providers

Our service providers use cookies and those cookies may be stored on your computer when you visit our website. We use AWS Analytics to analyze the use of our website. AWS Analytics gathers information about website use by means of cookies. The information gathered relating to our website is used to create reports about the use of our website.

C. Cookies Used For Advertising

Alice uses remarketing to advertise online. Third-party vendors, including Google, show our ads on sites across the Internet. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your past visits to our website. We work with AWS Analytics, to provide analytics services that use the cookies set on your device to measure the performance of advertising and track traffic to Alice generally.

When we work with third-party vendors to serve you personalized, interest-based advertising, we do not share information with them that they can use to identify you or associate with you as a specific individual unless you have instructed us to do so (such as when you fill out a lead form in an ad). Similarly, if one of those parties has information about you saved in one of their own cookies on your browser, they use that information to help us send you a relevant ad, but they do not share with us information that we can associate with you as an individual.

D. Opting Out of Cookies

We use cookies that are necessary for us to provide the services you use and you cannot opt out of those cookies on the website. You are able to disable placement of some (but not all) cookies by setting your browser to decline cookies, though this may worsen your user experience. Additionally, you can also control, manage and/or delete cookies via your browser settings.

8. Additional information for European Users

A. Your individual legal rights

Under certain circumstances, individuals in Europe have rights under data protection laws in relation to their personal data. Your principal rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) if you are an EU-resident user who is a natural person are described below. Rights under other data protection laws may vary. If you are located in Europe, you may ask us to take the following actions regarding personal data that we hold:

(i) Access.

You are entitled to ask us if we are processing your personal data and, if so, for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, as well as obtain certain other information about our processing activities. That additional information includes details of the purposes of the processing, the categories of personal data concerned and the recipients of the personal data. Providing the rights and freedoms of others are not affected, we will supply to you a copy of your personal data.

(ii) Correction.

If any personal data we hold about you is incomplete or inaccurate, you can require us to correct it, though we may need to verify the accuracy of the new data you provide to us.

(iii) Erasure.

This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal data where there is no good reason for us continuing to process it. You also have the right to ask us to delete or remove your personal data where you have successfully exercised your right to object to processing, where we may have processed your information unlawfully or where we are required to erase your personal data to comply with local law. However, there are exclusions of the right to erasure. The general exclusions include where processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation, or for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims.

(iv) Object.

Where our reason for processing your personal data is our legitimate interests, you may object to processing as you feel it impacts on your fundamental rights and freedoms. You also have the right to object where we are processing your personal data for direct marketing purposes.

(v) Restriction.

In some circumstances you have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data. Those circumstances include where you contest the accuracy of the personal data; processing is unlawful but you oppose erasure; we no longer need the personal data for the purposes of our processing, but you require personal data for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims; and you have objected to processing, pending the verification of that objection. Where processing has been restricted on this basis, we may continue to store your personal data. However, we will only otherwise process it with your consent; for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims; for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person; or for reasons of important public interest.

(vi) Transfer.

Where it is possible, we will provide to you, or a third party you have chosen, your personal data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format. Note that this right only applies to personal data provided by you which you initially provided consent for us to use or where we used the information to perform a contract with you. This right does not apply where it would adversely affect the rights and freedoms of others.

(vii) Withdraw consent.

Where our reason for processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide certain products or services to you. We will advise you if this is the case at the time you withdraw your consent. Withdrawal will not affect the lawfulness of processing before the withdrawal.

(viii) Automated decision making.

You have the right not to be subject to automated decision making (e.g., profiling) that significantly affects you. The exercise of this right is not available to you in the following cases (1) the automated decision is required to enter into, or perform, a contract with you; (2) we have your explicit consent to make such a decision; or (3) the automated decision is authorized by local law of an EU member state. However, in the first two examples described above, you still have the right to obtain human intervention in respect of the decision, to express your point of view, and to contest the decision.

B. Reservation of Rights.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, we reserve the right to keep any information in our archives that we deem necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. We also may use your personal data for reasons not described in this Privacy Notice where permitted by law and the reason is compatible with the purpose for which we collected it.

C. Requests to Exercise Indiviual Rights.

You can submit requests to exercise these rights by emailing Alice at the address set forth in “How to Contact Us” below. We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure you are entitled to exercise a right in respect of your personal data, for example, an account number. This is a security measure to ensure that personal data is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it. We may also contact you to ask you for further information in relation to your request to speed up our response.

There may be legal or other reasons why we cannot, or are not obliged to, fulfill a request to exercise your rights. We will use available lawful exemptions to your individual rights to the extent appropriate. If we decline your request, we will tell you why, subject to legal restrictions.

You will not have to pay a fee to exercise any of your rights relating to your personal data. However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Alternatively, we may refuse to comply with your request in such circumstances.

We will respond to all legitimate requests promptly and, in any event, within any timeframes prescribed by applicable law. In general, we must respond to queries within one month from the receipt of the request, so it is important that requests are identified and sent to us as soon as possible. Occasionally it may take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated. Any transmission of your personal data will be handled in a secure manner.

You also have the right to make a complaint at any time to a supervisory authority (for more information go to this link).

9. Security Safeguards

We employ physical, electronic, and managerial measures to safeguard the information we collect online.
